Overall, the most notable difference between the two countries lies in heating and cooling. Heating was the dominant energy use in Country A, accounting for nearly half of all household consumption at 45%, whereas it represented only 20% in Country B. Conversely, cooling was considerably more significant in Country B, where it constituted 35% of energy use, compared to just 20% in Country A — a pattern that likely reflects differences in climate.

Appliances accounted for a broadly similar proportion in both countries: 25% in Country A and 30% in Country B. Lighting was the smallest category in both cases, though Country B's share (15%) was slightly higher than Country A's (10%).

Urban mobility is a pressing policy challenge, and governments must decide whether to prioritise public transport infrastructure or road expansion for private vehicles. Both perspectives have merit, though I believe investment in public transport ultimately yields greater long-term benefits.

Advocates of public transport investment argue that it serves the greatest number of people at the lowest environmental cost. Efficient bus and rail networks reduce the number of private vehicles on the road, thereby cutting carbon emissions and alleviating congestion. Cities such as Singapore and Zurich demonstrate that well-funded public transport can be both widely used and financially sustainable. Furthermore, affordable public transport improves social equity by giving lower-income residents access to employment, education, and services they could not otherwise reach.

On the other hand, proponents of road expansion contend that private vehicles offer flexibility that public transport cannot match, particularly in suburban and rural areas where fixed routes are impractical. Businesses that rely on freight also depend on a well-maintained road network. In rapidly developing economies, road infrastructure may be a prerequisite for economic growth before a sufficiently dense population justifies mass transit investment.

Nevertheless, I am persuaded that public transport investment is the wiser long-term strategy. As urban populations grow, adding road capacity typically induces additional demand — a phenomenon known as "induced traffic" — which negates the congestion benefits. Public transport, by contrast, scales more efficiently and produces significantly lower emissions per passenger kilometre.

In conclusion, whilst roads remain important, governments should prioritise public transport as the foundation of sustainable urban mobility. (≈255 words)
